On People Pleasing
I was reading Mark 1:29-39. The story goes like this: Jesus heals a disciples's mother in law and the next day the whole town comes to His door. He heals them too.
The next morning he draws away and goes to a “deserted place" to pray. His disciples come after Him and when they find Him say, “Everyone is looking for you.” (Mark 1:37)
How Jesus responds is so interesting.
He doesn’t go apologize to “everyone” for being away.
He doesn’t send someone to deliver a message to them.
He doesn't ask what they want from Him.
He doesn't even go and help them.
He isn't worried about it.
Instead He says, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.”
He does not go and try to people please. He presses on in His purpose.
Who is your “everyone?” When does it keep you from pursuing your purpose? If Jesus wasn’t even a people pleaser - why do we think we should be?
You're free to spend time away and not apologize about it. Jesus never did and it didn't make Him any less of a savior.
