Project #LikeLife: Welcome ๐
I can't tell you how excited I am that you're joining me in this!
Consider this โchallengeโ to be more like an invitation, or this next few weeks to be like a support group or โ a challenge without the pressure. If the charge here is one thing it's: Let's learn to like our lives again - just how they already are.
In case you missed it โ for the past two years Iโve been learning how to like life and I've catalogued some of the โjourneyโ under the hashtag #likelife. It might sound like a fluffy phrase, but it holds a lot of weight.
This mission came about on a plane in prayer, when I was basically asking what I should do with my life. I was hoping for a quick fix or something I could do to get me closer to that imaginary destination where everything was perfect.
In response, I felt The Holy Spirit gently suggest, "Instead of trying to perfect your life, why donโt you just try to like it?" Since then, I've been trying to document simple daily delights and this practice changed my life.
The bad news is this: We wonโt love every second of life. This is hard. We are human and we arenโt made for here - weโre made for heaven.
But this is the good news that I have found: We can just like it - and we can do so now with the normal lives we have and the gifts weโve already been given.
Doesnโt that take the pressure off? Life isn't always loveable but it is likable. If we keep waiting until we have that job, graduate, get married, live somewhere else, have different friends, feel like we've arrived โ we'll be waiting forever.
The special occasion is today.
So how does this โchallengeโ work?
The rules are simple:
1. Decide you want to like your life. (You donโt have to love every second of it!) Let yourself off the hook. Perfection isnโt coming until heaven - so we might as well enjoy this gift of life weโve been given today.
2. Start noticing what is around you. Try to find one thing everyday that you like about your own life.
3. Capture what you like about life in a way that works for you. Start a note in your phone, text a friend, or post it on the internet. Do something to claim and document daily delight.
4. Tell someone. Iโd love if you shared with me online (#likelife !!), but you could also text a photo to a friend, tell someone who lives with you or just let God know. Speak what you like out loud.
5. Keep going. Document daily delight. Every day is a gift and we can like life now.
I've created this form for you to submit the things you've found you like about your life. I'll be collecting submissions throughout the challenge! You can submit anything here.
I know the world will change if everyone could stake the claim: โI know how to like my own life.โ
Thanks for joining me. I can't wait for this!
